Dominic: It's the official airport designation; what would be stamped on a ticket or baggage claim check. The codes for 3 US airports end in X: Jacksonville=JAX, which makes sense in terms of sound; then Los Angeles=LAX & Portland, OR=PDX--no idea how the X got with either of them!
