[Title aside, our favorite Rockstar Poet in Residence Barbie Angell is not playing games in today’s poem! But as always, she’s got something to say in her fun & unique way.]
New From Milton Bradley
It’s a world of utter mania
on an endless shopping spree.
It’s what no one ever told you,
it’s exactly what it seems.
There are no grand surprises
on the witness stand of life.
Its design is based on choices
not just the rolling of the dice.
And when it hands you lemons,
time and time again,
relax and put your feet up,
‘cause it’s a game you’ll never win.
It’s all about direction
and being honest with yourself.
It’s not about reflections
or the fickle fate of wealth.
But don’t misunderstand me,
I’m not saying that you’ll lose.
Be everything you can be.
Be the best you find in you.
So when the curtain finally falls
and the yodeling is done,
it’s whether you have lived your life,
not if you lost or won.

A miscellany like Grandma’s attic in Taunton, MA or Mission Street's Thrift Town in San Francisco or a Council, ID yard sale in cloudy mid April or a celestial roadmap no one folded—you take your pick.
Again, another Barbie Angell poem that goes to the heart of the matter and does so with style and a smile!
ReplyDeleteThere is rhythm, wisdom and fun in this poem.
ReplyDeletezen, you're so sweet, i may have you bronzed. : ) thank you.
ReplyDeletejoyce, thank you so much. i'm flattered you found all of that in my words. :)
In the illustration I like the flower and clouds on the clotheslines, both a sad and funny image.
ReplyDelete"Be the best you find in you" ought to be put up on people's walls as a reminder. I enjoyed the poem's strong message and playful rhyming. The word 'yodeling' in the last stanza was a pleasant surprise. Yodeling just isn't a word you often see in poems :)
hkatz, aw, thank you. : ) i'm honored that you found such power in my words. i've never been a fan of the saying, "it ain't over till the fat lady sings." i understand it and i know that the soprano in an opera is usually a large woman, but it always seemed to be such a derogatory statement. completely taking away that she closes the show because she is the best, and turning it into an insult. hence my "yodeling" reference instead. i'm glad you enjoyed that.
ReplyDeletethanks again. : )
Hi Zen, Joyce, HKatz & Barbie!
ReplyDeleteZen: Perfect characterization of Barbie's poems!
Joyce: Absolutely true--glad you enjoyed it!
HKatz: I love the yodeling line too! & yes, good observation about the drawing--it's a favorite of mine.
Barbie: Thanks so much as always :)
