"Dating Poems" (installment #5)

[Another of L.E. Leone's Dating Poems! Enjoy!]

ANDREW

He’s midwesterner than me,
says gosh, and golly. Once:
“Gol…”

Mennonite,
he loves Christmas tree lights
and Christmas, always orders the same
thing, and never tried pot

Oh but he could go and go! And go . . . (I take time,
and he had it.) If I was lucky one of his drops
of sweat would land on my lip

I like raw red meat, sushi, chicken hearts,
and any kind of liver. In lieu of tampons, or even makeup,
a bottle of hot sauce in my purse. Plus:
I suck the insides out of crawfish heads, with passion and
joy, unbridled. Dirty girl
on a low road, I tried real hard, too hard
not to fall in love.

Goddamn it, Andrew.
I miss your square ass.

  2. I thought sucking the insides out of a mudbug through the head was the only way to eat 'em! Yeah, you right!

Heh, heh! Having known more than a few Mennonites in my life, I'm having a hard time envisioning that particular pair-up.

  3. This Midwestern girl still says "gol"!

(fun to know you're enjoying the Natalie Merchant album, too!)

  4. Hi Eric, Roy & Willow

Eric: Thanks for stopping by, & thanks on L.E.'s behalf!

Roy: L.E. is a serious eater (fortunately for her, she's a restaurant reviewer by trade). The relationship in the poem was real; Eberle & I met the title character!

Willow: Must be a Midwestern thing! Yes, I'm very much liking that album & Natalie Merchant in general these days!
