A miscellany like Grandma’s attic in Taunton, MA or Mission Street's Thrift Town in San Francisco or a Council, ID yard sale in cloudy mid April or a celestial roadmap no one folded—you take your pick.

Vintage Postcards – Vermont #1
I’ve always loved postcards. Originally, they were connected with my Aunt Vera, my mother’s older sister, who lived in Oregon & was quite a traveler. She sent my sister & I postcards from her various stopovers throughout the American West.
But we also used to haunt antique stores with my grandmother (my mother’s mom) & there was a shop in Westminster, VT that had a number of old postcards for sale. As a result, I have a large collection of old postcards, & I thought I’d like to share some of these on Robert Frost’s Banjo. I’ll start off with postcards from the Bellows Falls, VT area—after all, that’s where I started out.
I'm off to Boise this morning, so I won't be able to catch up with comments or visits until later on. In the meantime, hope you enjoy these! (click on image to enlarge of course)

Talk about idyllic! What can I say but I (Heart) Vermont!
ReplyDeleteGood pictures! At the other end of the spectrum I keep seeing (but never buy) a book of boring postcards -mostly very amusing. Drab concrete municipal buildings, motorway service stations and the like!
ReplyDeleteThose are really lovely. The last one is so classic Vermont... I made a few trips through Vermont when I lived in New England and it was always such a wonderful place to visit. Went to see the Bread and Puppet Circus there once... do you know of them?
ReplyDeleteOh, and I want to say I'm sorry I'm not participating in the Sunday poetry posting lately... for various reasons. It's a very nice group of people, but I don't think I want to stick with a certain day that way, and my poetry output is very slow!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy old postcards. I love the ones that are textured. They don't make them like that anymore!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delight - a travel log - capturing all the flavor of a yesterday. Thank you for the felt joy of "saved" post card memories held anew.
ReplyDeleteHi K, Dominic, René, Jen & Rose Marie:
ReplyDeleteK: Thanks!
Dominic: I even like boring postcards!
René: Yes I do know Bread & Puppet theater-- their main stomping grounds are more northern Vermont, but let's face it-- VT isn't very big. Sorry to hear about OPSunday, but I understand everyone has different schedules & creative rhythms.
Jen: Thanks! I like the really old ones best, but I'll probably be posting some from the 60s & 70s as well.
Rose Marie: Thanks so much!
I love old postcards, and these are great. I don't know what old timer stood patiently on that pastoral road under the black cloth, his enormous camera balanced on a wooden tripod, waiting minutes for the exposure, but he sure did us a favor. I hope he made a little money.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline: Yes, these are some good ones I'm lucky to have. Thanks for stopping by & checking them out.
ReplyDeleteNice post - cards
ReplyDeleteGood one Randy!
ReplyDeleteI like the one of the Opera House/Post Office. Reminds me of some of the architecture in the old towns outside of our city.
ReplyDeleteKat
Hi Kat: That's a cool image. Sadly, those actual buildings are no more.
