We quite often had chats, me sat in the car in the car park at our local Tescos, him in the USA.

Our chats came to an end. Some time later, wondering why, I googled him to try and find out why. Sadly, he'd died. Only reading his obit did i find out that he was very active in politics and our political views were diametrically opposed! Being hams we'd never discussed politics or anything controversial, so I had no idea. I liked him and looked forward to our "ragchews".Dominic Rivronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02618013365521035400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4821243838031243709.post-53391189266465641352012-04-20T10:29:51.221-07:002012-04-20T10:29:51.221-07:00Hi Dominic: I would never have guessed that! &...Hi Dominic: I would never have guessed that! & I must confess--as shocking as this may be to my readers!--I've never watched a complete Simpson's episode, & have only seen snippets of a few.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15687192784861682991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4821243838031243709.post-24262291560161456122012-04-20T10:28:39.249-07:002012-04-20T10:28:39.249-07:00Hi Alan: Thanks! Whilst reading the post I was trying to think what the defining structure of Huddersfield was - I suppose it is the old castle atop Castle Hill.Alan Burnetthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01015127443616786425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4821243838031243709.post-86785738063793303092012-04-18T21:07:39.950-07:002012-04-18T21:07:39.950-07:00Hi Raquelle: Thanks! Including yourself, I follow several Portland-area bloggers (and a couple Instagrammers) and have seen images of this sign numerous times. It was really cool that you did a post about it. That's so interesting how it has transformed over the years, changing ownership and it's finally the way it is now, lit and everything. Thanks so much for sharing this!

I really want to visit Portland now. I keep hearing about how quirky and wonderful it is.Raquel Stecherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02687110907002450794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4821243838031243709.post-61411375455498995372012-04-18T12:35:57.658-07:002012-04-18T12:35:57.658-07:00Hi Kat: I thought of naming the "Hollywood&qu...Hi Kat: I thought of naming the "Hollywood" sign in my list of famous features, but that would have spoiled the...well, "joke" isn't exactly right, but you know what I mean. Actually, the "Hollywood" sign was originally "Hollywoodland," but was changed during repairs to the sign in the late 40s (after a drunken caretkaer plowed over the "H" sign with his Model A. While the inebriated caretaker survived, neither his car nor the original letter did.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15687192784861682991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4821243838031243709.post-54907567712585836132012-04-18T11:44:28.105-07:002012-04-18T11:44:28.105-07:00Well, I like them both-- the sign and the Old Town...Well, I like them both-- the sign and the Old Town tower!
