Sadly, I haven't seen Joan Baez--that would be well worth rectifying. I had a chance to see Rolling Thunder in 75 in Burlington, VT, but youthful foolishness got in the way--one of my big regrets in terms of missed shows.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15687192784861682991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4821243838031243709.post-58076572556506836602010-09-05T00:54:48.175-07:002010-09-05T00:54:48.175-07:00I saw Joan B. sing "Joe Hill" a couple o...I saw Joan B. sing "Joe Hill" a couple of years ago.Talk about about a bucket list achievement. I saw her just about a month ago performing in Washington state. She is such a remarkable & generous performer.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15687192784861682991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4821243838031243709.post-86492341140601592032010-09-04T16:53:47.593-07:002010-09-04T16:53:47.593-07:00Good post there John and I love Natalie Merchant.I...Good post there John and I love Natalie Merchant. It's a great song I first heard Billy Bragg sing in the 80's with altered lyrics but same powerful intent.Bueno!Totalfeckineejithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05352708391465031655noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4821243838031243709.post-2596691648055093002010-09-04T15:01:31.680-07:002010-09-04T15:01:31.680-07:00Hi Roy: Sadly, you are right, which made me want t...Hi Roy: Sadly, you are right, which made me want to post this even more. Natalie Merchant did a studio version on the House Carpenter's Daughter. Of course, Seeger's versions of this or any number of labor songs are all classics!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15687192784861682991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4821243838031243709.post-7955495077812648952010-09-04T14:47:10.667-07:002010-09-04T14:47:10.667-07:00A powerful piece of music indeed! And of course, because it was ol' Pete, we in the audience got to sing along on the chorus.

And it's a message we need to hold up loud and strong in the public eye, given the attacks on what the labor movement achieved by the new conservative upsurge, including a hostile Supreme Court (see Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission). Things don't look good lately for the worker.Royhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01648670975466222140noreply@blogger.com
